Public Notice on Salt Imports and Government Policy

The government abolishes state imports of salt after four years due to improved supply from pre war sources. Imports from Detroit previously funded by a cod export levy will end, and private enterprise will resume. Importers must still obtain licences from the Newfoundland Fisheries Board to import and handle salt.

Port firma directs salt supply contact with regular dealers

Authorities urge the port firm to immediately communicate with regular salt suppliers to prevent delays in securing salt for this season's fishery. Current salt stocks with dealers are under review and a further communique will follow. Consideration is being given to removing the export levy on salt fish and other fishery products.

Government to train ex servicemen in fur farming near St John’s

Public notice outlines a three year plan to train twenty ex servicemen annually for fur farming at Mount Pearl near St John’s. Eight month courses start November 1 each year with $30 monthly maintenance, plus a $500 grant on a dollar for dollar basis and returnable deposit. Preference to those near government depots and cold storage plants. Applications to the Secretary for Natural Resources in St John’s by 15 November 1946.
