Capt John Robsrte known as Skipper was a lifelong fisherman who sailed schooners to St Johns for J W Owen and later worked ashore and on big land with his grandson Raymond. He leaves two sons Frank and James, a daughter Mrs Edward Clarke, and was 83. Funeral at S S United Church by Rev T J Pitt with Loyalty Lodge LOA Brethren attending.
Capt Sid Hill wired Bowring Brothers saying he would collect scattered coals. The report notes the total killed at that date reached 5,500, indicating a severe disaster context.
