Local textile allocations doubled for six months ending June

A Newfoundland notice dated March 25 1944 states provisional textile allocations for six months to June may be doubled from the USA sourced quantities. Export Release approvals may be delayed until July, applications should be sent via Newfoundland Supply Liaison in Washington in April, and firms not taking allocations must report promptly for new arrangements.

Classification of imported foodstuffs takes effect April 1944

A Statistical Classification of imported foodstuffs was introduced in January 1944. Importers must insert classification numbers on all import entries for foodstuffs. A complete classification of imports and exports will take effect in April 1944. Entries after that date must show proper classification numbers. For now, importer numbers and recommendation or certificate numbers are required only for foodstuffs under Group O.

Parsons Named Assistant to General Freight Agent at Newfoundland Railway

Public Relations Office announces Charles Parsons as assistant to the General Freight Agent in the Claims Department. Parsons joined the railway in 1909, served in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment from 1914 to 1919 earning the Military Medal and Bar, returned to audit work, and in 1921 became voucher clerk before this promotion dated March 20 1944.
