Newfoundland sheep study compares Scottish and native stock
J Murray Director of Agriculture planning and Abtche led a field visit to Whitbourne after three flocks of Scottish sheep arrived last fall. R J Evane, the Scottish Shepherd in charge, plans lambing April 25 while some earlier births occur. Whitbourne hosts 15 North Country deviate ewes, 15 Shetland ewes, two rams of each breed, plus 16 native sheep kept outdoors all winter. The herd will be bred to native rams for cost and production comparisons to identify the best Newfoundland stock over the next two years.
