Fishery Outlook For 1942 Predicted By I P U Leader
President Brown of the I P U outlined the 1942 cod fishery prospects in a Monday night radio talk. He said shore fish prices should hold if markets stay open and shipping remains available, with better prices expected as old stock is caught by June. Labrador fish will move early, Spain and Portugal may become markets if shipping allows, while Norway and Iceland are ruled out. He noted high salt prices last year and pressed for price controls, asked for good 1942 fish quality, and warned Bank fishery could shrink due to enemy risk. He hopes seamen return safely with bumper trips and urged fishermen to buy War Savings Certificates. The Government was urged to act on captain supplies and vessel shortages for prosecutions, via the Development Board.
