Published by Authority. Under the Defence Act 1939 the Governor in Commission has enacted further regulations dated 6th July 1940. Ww. J. Carew, Secretary of the Commission of Government.
The Defence Commissioner may require reporting of firearms ammunition and explosives within areas named in notices. He will appoint reporting authorities, define duties and require records of all reported items. The regulations extend liability to owners occupants managers and employees for non reporting and authorize permits with conditions and penalties for violations.
The text cites that regulations include firearms, ammunition, and explosives rules and form part of the Newfoundland Defence Regulations published in the Gazette Extraordinary of September 1, 1939. It notes these regulations are in addition to existing ones and may be tested under the Defence Regulations.
In churches across the city for the tenth Sunday after Trinity St Peters holds 11 a.m. Matins and 7 p.m. Evensong. St Andrews 3 p.m. Evensong. United Church South Site 11 a.m. Layman service 2:30 p.m. Sunday School and Bible Class 7 p.m. Rev T J Pitt. Little Harbour 3 p.m. Rev T J Pitt. North Side 11 a.m. Rev T J Pitt 2:30 p.m. Sunday School 7 p.m. Layman. The Salvation Army 11 a.m. Holiness Service 3 p.m. Great Farewell Meeting 7 p.m. Final Farewell Service.
On Monday July 22 the wedding united Roy Taylor of Little Bay Islets and Misa Ethel Hyde of Grand Bank with Eric Pardy and Gwen Patten as attendants. The ceremony, led by Rev T J Pitt, occurred at the United Church Parsonage. Also Rev I Butler of Fogo presided at a separate marriage in St Andrew's Fogo.
The Recruiting Division provides a breakdown of overseas servicemen by magisterial districts within the country. The report outlines sections of the country from which men have joined the fighting services, noting that some material must be continued in the next issue.
