A bill titled An Act to Make Provision For An Expert Levy Upon Salt Fish Produced During 1942 has been read a first and second time and published with objects and reasons for general information. Written comments to the Secretary for Natural Resources are due by 23 July 1942.
The bill imposes a levy on salt fish produced in 1942 exported from Newfoundland with the same rates as 1941 and includes haddock cake ling pollock and cask. A Salt Fish Marketing Fund will receive levy proceeds to cover extra import costs and a reserve for future industry needs and to stabilize prices for fishermen.
A bill to impose an export levy on salt fish produced during 1942. Sections include interpretation levy per quintal of export and the establishment of the Salt Fish Marketing Fund for the year 1942.
Be it enacted by the Governor with the Commission of Government to levy payments by licensed exporters of salt fish for calendar year 1942. It defines fish types, duties per quintal for various salt fish products, and payments to the Salt Fish Marketing Fund 1942. The fund is to be administered by the Commissioner and used to set minimum prices for salt fish or as directed by applicable enactments.
To the credit of the said fund shall be held by the Genitisslader to be applied subject to the approval of the Governor in Commisssint to any arrangement which mad them after be thade for the dasistande of the fishing Industry generally or particularly. This Act may be cited as The Salt Fish Levy Act 1942.
Dear Sir the July 17 1942 report misstated the发现 mine in our ruins. A July 10 motor boat officer arrived and dismantled a British mine with over 500 pounds of high explosives. The mine drifted from Greenland and could have destroyed the town if it exploded. The officer traveled north to Battle Harbour and noted other mines and fish but no salt.
Captain Welshman arrived Monday with 80 hbda cargo from St. John s to Hodge Brothers in the east.

St Peters holds Holy Communion at 8 am and Evensong at 7 pm, 11 am service at St Andrews, United Church South Side hosts Sunday School Bible Class and lay activities, Rev T J Pitt conducts meetings in Little Harbour and North Side, Crow Head hosts Sunday School Bible Class and Holiness Meetings, with Salvation and Praise services scheduled. All welcome.
St Peter s congregation invites the public to a garden party on Thursday July 23 on the Parsonage Grounds. Admission to the grounds is 30 cents with tea baked beans. A panty stall ice cream tent and grab bag will attract visitors. A social hour is planned in Parish Hall with 16 cent admission.
Ruth Goodland and Phyllis Roberts collected ten dollars for the H M S Newfoundland Fund. The money was sent to the Evening Telegram. The effort shows how the community of young people contributed through ice cream sales and greetings for the new cruiser.
