Business firms announce winter holiday closures with shops shut every Thursday from January 24 to April 24. Additionally, closures occur on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and Empire Day.
Died at Jenkin's Cove on Sunday Stephen Pelley age 86. Funeral Tuesday by Rev Laite at the United Church. At Arm Frederick Legge age 78. Funeral Wednesday by Rev Laite. At South Side Thursday James Guy age 79. Funeral today by Rev Laite. At Little Harbour yesterday John Rice age 80. Funeral tomorrow.
The Annual Meeting of the L D A of Twillingate will be held at the Court House on Friday February 8. Members are urged to attend to vote on officers and pay dues. Those with bills against the L D A should present them. Alfred Fifield acting secretary.
Personal notes report Messrs Doyle May Cecil Stockley and Ernest Bridger arriving from Deer Lake on Sunday. The crew of the aux-schooner Bessie Marie arrived from St John’s via Lewisporte on Thursday. Sir John Hope Simpson is due at St John’s from England on February 11. Mr Fred Pond leaves today for Halifax.
The Child Welfare Association schedules a regular meeting and sewing class on Wednesday January 30 at 3 p.m. at Mrs Ned Facey’s North Side home. Members urged to attend and participate.

The department proposes amending regulations for surveying lumber and scaling round wood including pulpwood pitprops and sawlogs. Applications for scale permits are due by March 1 1935. Applicants must show character health education and woods experience and then prove ability to measure and calculate log volumes before permits are issued. After June 30 1935 only scalers permits holders may act as scalers of pulpwood pitprops or other round wood. Surveyors of lumber permits expire June 30 1993 and related appoinments will follow.

Mr and Mrs Ernest Jenkins of the Arm mourn the death of their one year old child who died one day this week. Funeral services are set for Thursday conducted by Rev Laite.
