In the Fourth Sunday of Lent multiple churches publish their schedules. St Peter's offers Holy Communion at 8:30, Matins at 11, Sunday School at 2:30 and Evensong at 7. St Andrew's has Matins at 11 and Evensong at 7. United Church on South Side lists 11 a.m. service by Rev. Pitt, 2:30 p.m. Sunday School and Bible Class, 7 p.m. Layman. Little Harbour hosts 3 p.m. Rev. Pitt with 7 p.m. Layman. North Side includes 11 a.m. Layman and 2:30 p.m. Sunday School with Rev. Pett at 7 p.m. Crow Head schedules 2:30 p.m. Sunday School and Bible Class.

Salvation Army 55th Corps Anniversary Observed

The Salvation Army marks its 55th corps anniversary with a schedule of services. At 11 a.m. Holiness Meeting follows by 2 p.m. Sunday School and Bible, 3 p.m. Enrollment of Recruits, 6.40 p.m. Prayer Meeting, and 7 p.m. Salvation Meeting with special songs. Wartime Motor Plate Change Allows Single 1943 Plates

In 1942 wartime restrictions led to issuing one motor identification plate instead of two. A 1942 Act enabled single plates for the 1943 registration year, with a windshield sticker. Local boats boost Notre Dame Bay fleet with new craft

Captain Saul White purchases a thirteen ton boat from Captain Gideon Bown at Badgers Quay. The vessel, fitted with a 75 hp Fairbanks engine and electric lights, is three years old and will operate from Bona Vista Bay to Lewisporte Botwood and Twillingate. Captain Saul and two sons will take over next week, expanding service across Notre Dame Bay and beyond to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Meeting at St John’s aids hospital rebuild

The Gerald S. Doyle News Bulletin reports a meeting at the NilD Hotel convened by E J Colbourne to raise funds for rebuilding the NB M Hospital section lost by fire on Feb 28. Attendees included two Board members Joseph White and Edwin Facey, city men formed a committee led by Geo R William MBE with Ted Meaney as secretary and D K Laing treasurer. Ayre & Sons Ltd contributed $1000.
