Remembering Tustin’s Oliver Paine
Oliver Paine, the sole Black resident in early 1900s Tustin, served the Phillips family and neighbors as a versatile helper. Memoirs recount his bouts of drinking, his jail stays, and his quirky, kindly interactions with local society. Stories persist in the Tustin Area Museum files and interviews.
