Senior center plans hit by zoning reversal vote
A split Orange County Board of Supervisors derailed a four year old zoning change to permit Springs at Bethsaida, a senior living center on 7.2 acres at Newport Avenue and 7th Street. Todd Spitzer led the reversal citing a conflict with a consulting job, while Lisa Bartlett and Shawn Nelson backed the move. Michelle Steel and Andrew Do opposed, arguing the zoning reversal undermined due process. The project would have added a two story building on 19 parcels previously developed for single family homes as opponents voiced concerns about fairness and land ownership by the Catholic Church.
