Federal workers to receive 4 percent pay raise

About 3.4 million federal employees earning under 47 500 annually will get a 4 pay increase starting tomorrow. President Ford ordered a 4.83 percent boost for civilian and military staff, affecting roughly 1.4 million civilians and 2 million military personnel with rates from 4.24 to 7.92 percent across grades. Congress had previously rejected a similar boost for higher officials including judges and cabinet members.

Harrises face kidnap charge in Hearst case

William and Emily Harris, already jailed for SLA activities, face a three count indictment charging the kidnapping of newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst. A grand jury returned the counts after a 51 witness hearing, bail set at 300000 each. Hearst, later an SLA member, had sought a new trial alleging withheld evidence and misidentification in a prior Los Angeles shooting.

Ford leads in straw vote for Pima County attorney race

The straw poll shows 65 percent backing Ford and 35 percent for Democrat Stephen Neely over GOP challenger Ann Bowen.
