John David Provoo a 33 year old ex sergeant discharged after eight years in the army is jailed on treason charges for allegedly betraying his country to Japan during wartime. He allegedly worked for Japanese commanders for three years as a propagandist and interrogator of American prisoners after his capture on Corregidor in 1942. FBI and U.S. attorneys describe his activities including broadcasting with Tokyo Rose and disguising as a Buddhist priest at Corregidor’s fall. He sent a telegram to his father before detention.

Firemen win charity game to fund iron lungs

Two people, Leonard B. Scott and Ann Wheeler both of Superior, were killed when a 1941 sedan wrecked near Amado on Highway 89. Norman Marsh, the cartoonist, attempted a non stop flight from Los Angeles to New York in a single day using an Aeronca plane. The cross country run ended Saturday when the craft ran out of gas in Harop county west of Cleveland. He reportedly landed safely with no injuries.
