More than 70 000 students return to Tucson area schools as new District 1 high schools Cholla and Santa Rita enroll about 2000. Santa Rita houses 625 plus 100 Carson Junior High and about 200 from Erickson Elementary, with a reciprocal classroom usage plan.
Mexico will extend its territorial waters from 9 to 12 miles along the coast, Diaz Ordaz says in the State of the Nation address. He backs a bill to Congress and warns against U.S. protests over Gulf of California waters. Harold W. Holcomb 69 longtime Benson official and justice of the peace since 1952 died at Tucson Medical Center. Born in Kansas he moved to Benson in 1906 and later ran a grocery with G A Kemp. He served as mayor 1929 1935 and 1937 1939 and held leadership roles in Rotary Chamber of Commerce American Legion and Masonry. Survived by wife Rosa S and three daughters. funeral arrangements are pending at Green's Mortuary in Benson.
