Cairo reports seven month siege of Tobruk ending with relief column from Rezegh joining Tobruk garrison. New Zealand troops and British tanks press north toward Rezegh as Axis forces retreat along front in Egypt and Libya, with heavy air activity on supply lines.
London Nov 27 The air ministry said British bombers in considerable force attacked Emden and other northwestern German objectives. Docks at Ostend were bombed as well. A gag plane was reported missing.
Mexico will keep the peso at 4.85 per dollar under a new U S Mexico economic accord. Finance Minister Eduardo Suarez said a 3.5 cent price for Mexican silver purchases by the U S treasury was fixed. A 40 million dollar stabilization fund was secured, with a first 10 million installment of a 30 million highway loan set to be signed pending congressional authorization. Negotiations on a reciprocal trade treaty will follow, Suarez added.

Richard H. Kleiss a former chief cook aboard U S flagships pleaded guilty in federal court to espionage conspiracy charges. He withdrew his innocence plea after a 1936 letter to Hamburg authorities was admitted. The trial against 14 co defendants had been under way since September 8.
Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson announced at a press conference that preliminary reports on American tanks and equipment in the Libyan campaign are satisfactory, with fuller details awaited. Contested action along the Trigh Capuzzo route toward Rezeghi battle sector is noted.

A derailed Atlantic Coast Line New York to Miami streamliner near Hortense Georgia killed one passenger identified as John Carroll and injured about twelve others. Doctors and nurses from Waycross treated the injured at the ACL hospital as traffic rerouted between Savannah and Jacksonville.

Westbrook Pegler, columnist for the Tucson Daily Citizen, will receive the first merit award of the year from the Poor Richard club of Philadelphia, the second largest advertising club in the country. The award will be presented December 2 for his outspoken defense of the American way in public comment.

Comet news service reports that terms presented to Japanese envoys by Secretary of State Cordell Hull show little chance of closing the Japanese American rift. New York November 27 Sources close to President Roosevelt's arbitration board considering the captive mine union shop issue say John L. Lewis would seek clarification of reports that spokesmen for two steel companies said their firms were not bound by the outcome of the arbitration. The three man board includes Lewis head of the United Mine Workers with Dr John R Steelman representing the public and Benjamin F Fairless representing steel companies. The board met for its first session yesterday and reconvened today.

Washington November 27 Japanese envoys reported after a White House conference today that they had a very friendly talk with President Roosevelt and were silent on whether peace talks would resume. Hull and Nomura attended a brief meeting as Kurusu said he had no orders to return to Tokyo. Reports say Japan has been strengthening forces in Indo China with transports and war materials. The dispute centers on accepting or rejecting the United States basic principles for peace in the Far East.
Negotiations resumed this morning at 9 30 between Douglas Mill and Smelter workers union CIO and Phelps Dodge representatives. Stanley V White US Labor Department conciliator arrived last night to aid progress toward a working agreement for Douglas smelter employees. Delegates include Dennis Kitchel Phoenix attorney, Charles Kuzell Clarkdale superintendent, Orville Larg on CIO Douglas organizer, Harry Hafner Bisbee organizer, David Wallace Douglas union secretary, and William Bates Fred Fer Victor Rose and Julio Vasquez of the CIO.
