Tom and Jerry and eggnog recipes for Christmas drinks

The author shares traditional holiday recipes. Tom and Jerry batter is built from separated eggs with yolks beaten thick, sugar, mace, nutmeg, then liquor folded in, served with hot water in mugs. Eggnog recipe follows, with heavy cream or milk, nutmeg, bourbon, and stiff egg whites, chilled and served cold with optional Jamaica rum.

Arizona elderberry wine contest highlights homemade brews

The Brookside Winery event showcased 20 wines with only three grape-based, featuring prickly pear, persimmon, rose, columbine gooseberry and other varieties. tasters praised self-made vintages. participants ranged from a UA professor to retirees, with several winning prizes and many planning further experiments.

Sake won best of show and dessert wine first place. William Wehofer from Phoenix made it. Tucson's Robert Thews won the grape wine class with his beaujolais. Phoenician Mike Dannell won the largest class specialty wines with a rose petal wine. Mike Mash of Tucson was second in dessert wines with red wine like Cold Duck. Gary Platt of Tucson was second in grape class with a white grape wine. Joel Moses of Phoenicia second in specialty wines with cherry wine. Mr and Mrs Ross Daniels of Tucson took third and fourth in specialty wines with prickly pear wines from two batches. The statewide contest, first held this year, was sponsored by Dionysian Garden of Tucson and Evelyns Winemaking Supplies of Phoenix, with plans for annual alternation between cities.
