National guardsmen patrolled Ft Worth as Trinity River floodwaters receded. City urged a business holiday for water shortages while water plant pumps failed. Officials estimated 25 million dollars in damage with 6 000 to 7 000 homeless and seven bodies recovered.
Baseball results show Cleveland past New York 37 to 28 with Gromek, Hogan, Porterfield and Berra contributing. Scarborough three-hit victory aided by Haynes and Evans as Detroit beat rivals. Chicago and Boston split in a low scoring affair as Gettle, Kuzava and others secured the win for Boston. National League notes include Boston defeating Pittsburgh and a Cincinnati loss to New York while Brooklyn, St. Louis faced weather threats.
Funeral arrangements were under way for Montie Erwin 57 who died at his Somerton home. A Pecos Texas native he had lived here for years and is survived by wife Beulah two sons a daughter and his mother Mrs Lilly Erwin of Douglas.
Tucson relatives of 10 month old Georgia Ann Wells report her congenital heart surgery in Los Angeles was delayed by a chest cold. The operation, previously set for Wednesday, has no definite new date but is expected to proceed once the cold clears. Georgia Ann, daughter of Mr and Mrs William T Wells of Willcox, is with her parents in Los Angeles.

In Washington Brazilian President Eurico Gaspar Dutra praises US ties as Congress debates budget and military pay, amid anti-Tammany sentiment and security probes.
Nationalist air force said Communist attempts to cross the Whangpoo and attack Lunghwa airport were repulsed by heavy bombing of a Communist flotilla. Lunghwa airfield remained operational as other Communist columns neared the city, with several fronts near Shanghai reported.

Arizona's copper industry faces lower prices at 18 cents a pound, risking $2.5 million in state income tax revenue and triggering higher property taxes. Mines cut output to five or six days per week while pumps and equipment require staffing.
Globe Miami will host the fall conference of the Arizona Municipal League after the executive committee selects dates. Mayor David H. Campbell presented Globe’s offer. At the eastern state mental hospital near Knoxville eleven of the one hundred fifty two patients who escaped the blaze remained at large after authorities searched the ruins. A headcount found eleven males unaccounted for, with no bodies located in the fire scene.
Campbell reports no deaths after a Wednesday fire in the central U shaped hospital building. Dr. Peterson says searches found no bodies as 11 inmates remain missing and authorities say inmates are not dangerous. Firefighters rounded up the inmates by midnight and released those in the dormitory wings. All records were lost when the office area burned. Inmates ranged in age from 19 to 37.

United Nations delegates ended the spring session by rejecting Poland’s bid to debate Gerhart Eisler the Communist fugitive. Poland pressed the issue as the assembly approved Israel’s admission and a world treaty to safeguard news transmission while shelving Italy’s colonies and Spain representation.
U S intelligence in Germany began a search for the Nazi regime remaining atomic stockpile after 11 Germans were arrested trying to sell uranium. Brig Gen G H Weems said about 4600 grams of uranium worth 6 million dollars were left, with 2300 grams recovered. One German chemist and inventor were among those arrested, with another believed hidden in Essen. An individual named Dr Alfred Dang was reportedly headed toward Rio de Janeiro. Tests showed the uranium was pure and 9.5 percent radioactive.
Soviet lifted the Berlin truck blockade after British protest ending a two day eastern western clash over deliveries to Berlin by German trucks on the Helmstedt autobahn. Berlin reported trucks moved into the city but many shipments spoiled after hours in sun due to delays.
In Maricopa County Arizona the question of whether women jurors may wear hats on jury duty was argued before Superior Judge H I Russell. Six local judges weighed in with mixed views with three supporting hats two opposing and one unavailable for comment.
The F2H Banshee reportedly shot down a bomber faster than the B 36 in a 40 000 foot mock fight. The test prompted a push for impartial B 36 versus Banshee trials as the House Armed Services Committee filed for a formal test to assess the bomber's vulnerability.
