Four Killed as B47 Stratojet Crashes in Desert

Early morning crash near Davis Monthan base killed Captain Ralph Skidmore Captain Clifford Nadeau First Lieutenant Dale Smith and Master Sergeant Arnold Crocker from the 358th Bombardment Squadron. Fire and wreckage destroyed the area as a board of inquiry was opened. Families were notified and base chaplains assisted survivors.

20 Aboard American C47 Missing Over Alps

Marseille reports a U. S. Air Force C47 with 20 aboard missing for 24 hours over southern Europe. The plane carrying 16 passengers and 4 crew departed Rome for Bitburg yesterday, last heard on course over Corsica at 12:42 p.m. Rescue teams search the French Alps after sea sweeps found no trace.

Strikers Knot New York Port in Waterfront Stand

Wildcat strikers tied up New York's port defying a federal court order. Independent Longshoremen’s Association members refused to work a luxury liner and other Manhattan piers while the rival AFL union also did not report to struck piers to avoid clashes.

Local horseman suspended by Arizona racing commission

The Arizona racing commission barred owner-trainer Claude E. Arnett of Tucson from Arizona tracks until June 30 after drugs were found in the saliva of one of his horses at Rillito race track. Trainer Green H. Bowers received a suspension through September 3 for conduct at the track.

Burglar Clamps Safe at Saddle & Sirloin on Miracle Mile

A Santa Claus style burglar slid down a chimney at the Saddle and Sirloin, 2130 Miracle Mile, cracked a safe, and escaped with about 2300. A $100 cash register theft and a further 2200 in a filing cabinet safe were reported.

Shell Blast Kills Marines In Training

An 82 millimeter mortar shell exploded during a training demonstration near Seoul, killing at least six U S Marines and wounding twenty. Some injured were in critical condition as helicopters ferried doctors and blood to aid casualties and three medical companies, with seriously hurt airlifted to a hospital ship in Inchon harbor.
