Chessman Executed in San Quentin Gas Chamber Finale

Caryl Chessman was put to death by gas at San Quentin Prison in a 11 year struggle over clemency. Governor Brown refused to intervene as Chessman, a Los Angeles kidnapper with sexual assault charges, became a worldwide symbol in the fight against capital punishment.

Arizona History Society eyes state execution chamber

Sidney E. Brinckerhoff says the Arizona Historical Society may seek the state’s execution chamber from the prison if dismantling occurs after the Supreme Court ruling on capital punishment.
