Sunnyside Expands Full-Day Schedules For Third Year
Sunnyside School District will begin a third year of full-day schedules this fall amid predicted elementary crowding. Elementary enrollment should reach 3,475, while Sunnyside High School expects 1,375 students. An eight-classroom addition at the high school was built last year and Elvira School will add eight classrooms. a two-classroom junior high addition will also be added on the Sunnyside Elementary site, funded partly by a $150,017 federal grant and bonds.

Sunnyside High To Add Citizenship Course For Freshmen
Sunnyside High School will require a new citizenship and guidance course for freshmen this fall. Supt. John Herrera says the program aims to prepare students for mature roles in society, covering health safety conformity relationships and responsibilities to home school city state and country. The plan calls for outside instructors such as nurses doctors ministers lawyers and business people to join regular teachers. The course will be experimental for about two years before deciding on its regular status.

Ring of daytime theft hits two city stores
Shoplifters entered Levy's Music Center at 45 N Scott Ave through the front door between 9 30 a m and noon and took a stereo valued at 119 dollars from the showcase. Later the same day two couples visited Atlas TV Appliances at 2525 N Campbell Ave and left with six transistor radios valued at 103 dollars. Police noted no witnesses.
