New Highway Program Cost Will Come Back In Savings
Experts say the broad interstate plan will save money over time through reduced fuel use and faster travel. The bill, approved by the Senate, awaits House action and would raise gasoline taxes and tire duties to fund about 6,000 miles of six to eight lane turnpikes, 27,000 miles of four lane roads, and 7,900 miles of two lane roads over three years, with 80 percent federal funding.
