Dam Revenue May Reduce Taxes In 1942

Phoenix June 25 The state tax commission told the Arizona resources and planning board that 1 200 000 soon to be available under the revised Boulder canyon act must be earmarked by August 11 or it will be counted as revenue for the 1941 42 tax rate. The board discussed a special legislative session to fund a Colorado river power and water development survey. The plan envisions 300 000 annually for 50 years retroactive to 1937 in lieu of taxes. Wright urged board support for the session to aid civilian defense. Two projects were adopted: sedimentation survey of the Gila river watershed and a long term grazing improvement plan costing 7 000 000. The surveys prep development for future national defense needs. The University of Arizona Agricultural College and the Soil Conservation Service join the sedimentation work. A redraft of Governor Osborns bill to create a state water and power authority will be ready within 10 days. the measure failed in the 15th legislature.
