The Sunshine Kiwanis Club reported a total of 12,992 from barbecue tickets sold in March and April. After expenses of 4,792 for the April 25 event, profit reached 8,200, meeting the original goal for youth and community programs including high school book scholarships, with approval from the Tucson Fund Raising Review Board.
Gov Sam Goddard plans to join a state dinner in Hermosillo Mexico honoring U S ambassador Fulton Freeman. He was invited by Sonora Governor Luis Encinas and will be represented by assistant Louis Myer at a Friday mental health advisory luncheon. He will stay in Mexico through the weekend to discuss Arizona Sonora relations unless Arizona legislative developments pull him back.
SHREVEPORT La UPI Police Chief Harvey D Teasley drove the wrong way down a one way street June 16 and was injured in a two car crash. He charged himself with careless and reckless driving and faces up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Dr. Gerard P. Kuiper told Tucson Rotary Club that permanent settlements on the Moon or Mars are nonsense and that adults should not seek colonies. He argued lunar landing will be possible with surface bearing strength of one to two tons per sq ft and favoring open civilian American space research over militarized programs. He praised the U S open-space program for transparency and international influence, stressing its educational impact.
