Brown Talks On Penicillin Here
Dr. James G. Brown head of the University of Arizona plant pathology department told the Kiwanis Science club at the Pioneer hotel about the use of penicillin in plant life. He traced penicillin from 1928 discovery by A Fleming to medical breakthroughs in 1940 and described local university experiments that produced 200 gallons of crude penicillin for hospitals and clinics in the state. He noted the university was among the first to cure plant disease with penicillin and linked the plant cure to cancer-like ailments. Slides illustrated disease development and cure. The meeting also featured the club’s third annual county fair with victory garden produce judged by Henry Tate.
