Senate to vote on food stamp boost and reform plan

Harry Yablonski, 24, a Tucson firefighter, was listed in satisfactory condition at Carl Hayden Hospital after inhaling fumes while battling a house fire at 5425 8 Canada Drive caused by a short circuit. A utility room and carport were destroyed with estimated damage of 4500 dollars.

Charleston Jails Abernathy When Strike March Erupts

Civil rights leader Ralph David Abernathy was arrested after tens of protesters backed a hospital workers strike in Charleston. Bottles bricks and stones flew as police stopped the march, injuring six officers and a fireman. National Guardsmen were mobilized by Gov. McNab. Abernathy and three others faced charges of disorderly conduct and parade without a permit. About 450 striking workers seek union recognition and reinstatement of 12 workers at two city hospitals.

Woman May Be Billed $50,000 for Catalina Fire

A 200 acre blaze in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Sabine Basin is declared extinguished by the U S Forest Service after more than 300 firefighters fought the flames. Soldier on probation for marijuana possession

Michael F. Klewene, 20, a Ft. Huachuca soldier, pleaded guilty to possessing nine pounds of marijuana and was sentenced to three years probation by U.S. District Court Judge James A. Walsh yesterday.
