Charge Reduced In Slaying Case Involving Lawrence Chisom
Justice of the Peace Larry Johnson dismissed an open murder charge against 55 year old Lawrence Chisom and ordered the state to refile a lesser manslaughter count. Chisom was held for Superior Court on a $5,000 bond after a two day hearing on the June 2 death of William Ray Bell. The judge said the evidence did not support first or second degree murder. Bell, who had been drinking, struck Chisom with a wooden arm and tried to choke him during a scuffle at 2331 South Park Avenue, where Chisom also lives. Chisom contends he fired in self defense after being attacked with a knife, but he did not testify.
