Navy V Mail Mobile Units Deliver Seven Million Monthly

The Navy V-Mail system, two years old, has expanded about 560 percent in nine months and now delivers over 7 million V-Mail pieces each month. Since June 1942, Army and Navy mail totals reach 514 million letters with none lost irretrievably in transit due to on-site retention at embarkation ports and re-photographing if planes are lost. Mobile V-Mail depots operated near combat zones, with Tarawa, Kwajalein, and Eniwetok among sites, highlighting cargo space savings where V-Mail weighs 1/140 of a standard letter.
