Tucson's city government approved leasing 14 patrol cars from O'Rielly Motor Co to replace the current fleet. Paris June 17 The Big Four foreign ministers extended their unofficial deadline to reach accords on the Austrian independence treaty and a German trade pact. They recessed until Sunday and set another meeting for Monday. Observers say agreement on the German issue seems near amid east west differences. The Austrian treaty could take months to finalize and may not be ready for signature until fall.

Chicago, June 17. Frank Wronkiewicz, a butcher, resisted a robber who beat him for cash. After an initial $15, the bandit struck him placing $120 more in the victim’s hands. The thug then beat and kicked him until Wronkiewicz yielded another $400 in back room.

Nonfarm payrolls fell in May by 280,000 with manufacturing drop the main cause, though other sectors rose.
