Beverly Hills California Vice President Nixon campaign manager Murray Chotiner says his 1.23 million libel suit against Behind the Scene magazine is being settled out of court Attorney Jerry Giesler said the deal includes a full page open letter of apology to Nixon and Chotiner admitting the March 1956 story linking Chotiner to the underworld is false plus payment to cover fees and costs and an affidavit disclosing complete sources.
Chotiner filed suit in Superior Court last January. The article notes the apology issue is set for release on June 25.
President Eisenhower nominated Marine Maj. Gen. Ray A. Robinson and Maj. Gen. Merrill B. Twining for lieutenant general ranks. Robinson commands the Fleet Marine Force Atlantic based in Norfolk Virginia. Twining heads the Marine Corps schools at Quantico Virginia and is brother of Gen. Nathan F. Twining Air Force chief of staff.
