Ball Lightning Explained As Jet Gas Escapes Bend
London reports Dr. C. E. R. Bruce of the Electrical Research Association offers a theory in Nature that ball lightning forms when a lightning stroke bends and leaks, allowing a jet of hot gas to escape and roll in a magnetic field. Observations describe a glowing globe four to eight inches wide that can move slowly and scorch objects.
