Please Please Flugum Dies After Plane Rescue Attempt
Flight crew and paratroopers struggled for nearly three hours to free Pfc. Wayne Flugum from the slipstream after his static line tangled on a training drop at Pope Air Force Base. Despite efforts including a jet plane nudging him and rescuers throwing a rope, Flugum died in the air and was later recovered lifeless from the foam runway.
