Tortillas Meet The Machine In Tucson Factory Tale
The piece describes Bill Garcia of La Suprema Tortilla Factory in Tucson using automation to produce about 18 million tortillas a year. It contrasts hand making with a modern plant setup featuring a Strontium 90 note and a high tech tortilla making line, yet emphasizes fresh, salt free, fat free corn tortillas. The story blends home nostalgia with industrial process and a nod to nuclear science claims about tortilla consumption.
