Fired at Yuma reveals longest gun trail over Arizona skies
Tucsonans watched a bright projectile trail in the western sky after 9 p.m. from the Yuma Proving Ground. The shot by the High Altitude Research Project burned tri methyl aluminum to create a visible plume lasting about a half hour. The 119 percent foot gun runs at 85 degrees for research, not combat, with instruments studying ionospheric disturbances.
