Truman Calls for Full Vote Fraud Probe in Missouri

President Truman pressed for a complete inquiry into alleged vote fraud in Missouri's 5th district after Enos Axtell defeated Rep. Roger Slaughter in the Democratic primary. FBI chief Hoover said a full investigation is underway, with Clark and Hoover testifying to Capitol Hill as lawmakers questioned scope. A gas gun used for wildlife capture appears in a separate note.

Murder Trial Takes Recess

In Santa Ana California on June 5 the murder trial of Beulah Louise Overell and her fiancé George Bud Gollum paused as the court sought a new pool of jurors. Attorneys on both sides exhausted three panels totaling about 250 potential jurors in six days. Superior Judge Kenneth E. Mor indicated next week may also be spent locating an acceptable jury for the defense and prosecution.
