Levy Guilty Of Disloyalty Faces 11 Years In Prison
Army Capt. Howard B. Levy was found guilty by a court martial of disloyalty and disobedience after refusing to train Green Beret medics and making antiwar statements. The 30 year old Brooklyn born doctor at Ft. Jackson faces up to 11 years confinement as sentencing proceedings begin. The 10 member panel reconvenes to hear defense arguments for a lighter sentence. Levy's attorney argued there could be martyr effects, but failed to justify the disobedience on alleged war crimes by Green Beret forces or ethical duties over orders. Levy stood silent as verdicts were read amid a tense courtroom scene at Ft. Jackson.
