Ye hudi Crew Tosses Pants And All To Lighten Ship

An unnamed crew of the Flying Fortress Ye hudi under Lt. John P Keys faced a crippled engine and losing altitude over England. They jettisoned clothing and gear to shed weight, including pants and underwear, until the bomber regained flight. Navigator Patrick Louis declined to leave during the crisis. Congressmen Oppose Cheap Wool for Relief

Congressmen from wool producing states at hearings on the lend lease appropriation bill warned that UNRRA textiles sent to Europe may be of inferior quality. Rep Hill of Colorado urged UNRRA to use American wool from domestic stockpiles instead of foreign wools. Rep Barrett of Wyoming pressed for relief to use only American wool. Passenger tire output for 1944 expected at 18 to 24 million units, below prior 30 million estimate.
