NEW DELHI India January 13 Mohandas K Gandhi began a life endangering fast for communal peace at 11 am. He rejected last minute appeals from Hindu Sikh and Moslem delegations to delay. He dictated the start with his watch and held a brief prayer following a sparing breakfast of goat milk and vegetables.
Four victims of a nitroglycerine explosion at the Apache Powder company dynamite mixhouse in Benson are to be mourned with final rites. Hubert Drew 31 was found outside the barricaded building and had just returned from an errand. Paul Blanco Jr 35 Manuel Hernandez 28 and Ismael V Martinez 42 are the other deceased. Investigators have not yet determined the blast cause. Funeral arrangements are by Hubbard mortuary Bisbee.
Brig. Gen. Wallace H. Graham testified before the senate appropriations committee that he exited the wheat market except for one small trade after President Truman labeled speculators. He kept cotton trades until December 18 and assumed personal responsibility for them, reporting a net loss overall despite a $6,165.26 profit in commodities. all transactions were closed by year end with no inside information.

Sleds weighed 1500 pounds and used five solid fuel rockets delivering 10 000 pounds thrust for 1 8 seconds.
