Jurors Weigh Sanity Of Voeckell In Sabine Attack
Final evidence in the case of Charles B. Voeckell 26 accused of attempting to murder Mr and Mrs Richard Y Ginter of Tucson on Nov 12 in Upper Sabine canyon was read to a jury of 12 in superior court. Four psychiatrists testified to insanity while two argued he is sane. Dr Lemmle said Voeckell faked insanity to avoid the draft, aided by his mother. A California hospital letter said staff felt Voeckell still dangerously ill mentally and should not be released. Other psychiatrists testified he is mentally retarded and emotionally undeveloped yet understands right from wrong. The defense and prosecution prepared further arguments for the afternoon.
