Dope Ring Bust Seizes Morphine Plant and Eleven

Federal narcotics agents and Phoenix police arrest eleven suspects in a large scale narcotics roundup tied to a morphine operation. Seized were three ounces of morphine, equipment, two cars, and a local morphine-processing lab. Two men, Hom Shew Gock and Albert Good, were arraigned on $5,000 bonds each.

Legal Counsel Named for Tucson Pension Board

City Atty. Tom Elliott acts as legal representative for the police and firemen pension board in Tucson. The issue arose over who should handle a $250 reward check cashed by Chief Don J. Hays and destined for the pension fund under state law. The Arizona Attorney General's office has been studying the matter since December with a decision expected soon.

Airman Slays El Paso Man and Is Arrested

El Paso businessman Frank Pukli Jr. was shot to death early today in front of his home. Tech Sergeant Kenneth Jones surrendered a 45 army automatic at the scene after an alleged confrontation with Pukli and Jones’s wife, who had returned from Juarez, Mexico. Mrs. Jones was unharmed aside from a bullet hole in her sleeve.

Bank Robber Chased Down Tucson Street by Vigilant Guard

A 72 year old bank guard and a former policeman pursued and captured Lawrence D. Wesson after he robbed Southern Arizona Bank and Trust of 5789 dollars. Wesson, using a paper wrapped pistol, was tackled by bystanders and bank staff with aid from Deputy Crutchfield and the FBI later took over.
