Arizona legislators introduced a bill to create an inter state stream commission to manage Colorado river water. Hearings were scheduled in both chambers with plans to adjust the bill. the Senate and House committees indicated changes were likely.
PHOENIX Jan 6 Sen Al Favour of Yavapai county was appointed chairman of the senate judiciary committee by President John Babbitt. He relinquished the state institutions committee chair to accept the judiciary post. Sen William F Kimball of Pima will head the institutions group. Sen James Herron of Pinal county, succeeding Canfil, chairs suffrage and elections and serves on several committees.
The Arizona Supreme Court is weighing Robert W. Cassady's appeal from his Apache County conspiracy conviction to violate gambling laws. Oral arguments were heard May. Cassady was fined 500 dollars by the Apache County Superior Court for alleged slot machine operations.
Senate judiciary and agriculture and irrigation committees opened discussion on the Arizona streams commission bill. Proposed amendments aim to bar wholesale or retail electricity sales and prevent any change from affecting the Arizona power authority act of 1944. Brig Gen Telford Taylor labeled them key actors who translated Hitler's ideologies into action with eight foreign office executives led by Baron Ernest von Weizsaecker singled out as prime targets of scorn.
Lamarre H. Lamarre, 35, who had been indicted with Maj. Gen. Bennett K. Meyers, pleaded guilty in U S district court to three counts of perjury. Sentencing was deferred for a probation report. Meyers is to be arraigned next on related perjury and inducing perjury charges.
Washington dispatch reports that the American Red Cross set a 1948 fundraising goal of 75 million dollars amid protests from El Paso and Birmingham officials who argued quotas are too high. El Paso seeks 75,000 with 23,000 to national HQ, while national leaders defend the target.

Dr Charles Edward Smith declined to kill six black widow spiders after his 11 year old son begged him not to. One spider bit the boy as he fed it. the patient was recovering at Stanford Hospital. The father, president of the California board of health, said the decision was to spare the boy heartbreak and hoped the boy would turn to other insects.
