Red Cross mobilizes 1500 volunteers for Tucson drive

About 1,500 Tucson Red Cross volunteers will solicit $145,650 for the local chapter and national Red Cross work. Col. C. Hi Welch leads the effort with a target to finish by April 1. The drive highlights blood needs as Korean War casualties rise, noting Tucson’s blood program and local volunteers’ value. Assisted by Lewis G. Morris and six cochairs.

Frontier Keeps Tucson Frontier Airlines Route Change

The CAB ordered Frontier Airlines to alter service by dropping Nogales Douglas Yuma on the Phoenix Tucson leg and shifting Tucson to the Phoenix El Paso route with remaining hops at Safford Clifton and Silver City New Mexico The Phoenix Yuma leg also ends but the Phoenix Winslow link continues Tucson’s status as a stop is preserved on the Phoenix Tucson Nogales Douglas Lordsburg path until the route shift takes effect.

USS Los Angeles Shells Wonsan Harbor Bombardment

The heavy cruiser Los Angeles moved into Wonsan harbor and shelled coastal guns and supply warehouses with nine eight inch guns. Escort destroyer Hammer added five inch batteries to the bombardment while Navy planes from Task Force 77 spotted targets. The battleship Missouri continued its heavy bombardment with 16 inch guns.
