Arizona House Rejects Tax Limit Call as Constitution Rewrite Fear
Phoenix Arizona lawmakers rejected a proposed 25 percent income tax limit after Rep Enos Schaffer warned it could trigger a constitutional convention in two years to rewrite the U S constitution. The House approved bills funding health welfare and correction and school lunch financing and sent other measures to the Senate including pensions for volunteer firefighters and homebound student instruction. The Senate was in committee on bills including removing the word insane from Arizona law and allowing open hearings for court cases involving mentally ill individuals. A separate measure would permit the state to carry liability insurance on its vehicles amid reports of improper university spending.
