Mrs. Bynum Pleads Guilty and Is Sentenced
Teresa Bynum pleaded guilty to second degree murder in superior court. Judge J Mercer Johnson imposed a 10 to 12 year state prison term after the county attorney accepted her request to waive standard sentencing. Sheriff's deputies moved her to Florence state prison as the case closed the door on a planned first degree murder trial. Senate Recommends Passage of UA Expansion Bill
In Phoenix the Arizona Senate endorsed 11 bills including five expanding a 5.94 million dollar UA and state college building program. Two more related measures to complete the program were expected to pass. A dispute centered on creating a highway department director, opposed by some who favored the state engineer. The college bills faced no opposition and funding was shifted to a two year period starting July. The UA may issue 3.5 million in self liquidating dorm bonds, Tempe to follow today. Valley Bank Holdup Thwarted By Teller Heroics
A Valley National Bank teller prevented a robbery at the downtown branch shortly before 1 pm. Mrs. Gisela Erickson 27 described a note read Do not raise alarm and reported the robber had no visible weapon. Police searched the Scott avenue area near the Masonic Temple as the suspect fled east on Congress then south. He was 45 to 50, six feet tall, slender, in an olive drab shirt and a dirt hunter's cap.
