United Nations Push Forward In Korea Front Report
American forces advanced into Hoengsong twice but did not seize the city’s central road hub. A tank infantry team withdrew after a three hour fight north of town. Patrols entered Hoengsong again in the afternoon but retreated as Communist fire opened from northern hills. Nearby allied forces flushed a Chinese battalion near Sanggosong in the Sanggosong area. Along the west central front the Chinese were retreating under pressure from allied forces. Reports also said Gen Lin Piao was reassigned with Peng Teh huai becoming deputy commander in chief of Chinese forces.
