Ice hiker saved from Lake Erie by helicopter

A 72 year old man, Edward W. Shaw, was plucked from melting Lake Erie ice six miles from Long Point Ontario. Coast Guard and Canadian authorities resumed searching for four others attempting to walk 31 miles to Canada. Shaw, a lifelong Lake Erie worker, planned to reach the Long Point lighthouse but halted 17 to 18 miles short when rescued.
