Monarch Rambler Holds Fifth 99-Cent Washington Sale

Elizabeth New Jersey witnessed a crowd of 75 at Monarch Rambler as they opened for a fifth annual 99-cent Washington’s birthday sale. Seventeen cars, all over five years old, were available and first buyer Joseph A. Laszlo received the key to a 1957 Oldsmobile which needed a start from a jump. Sedgwick Brown bought his fourth 99-cent car in as many years a 1954 Chevrolet, still running well. Buyers faced a 99-cent purchase fee plus at least $15 in vehicle registration fees.

Treasury says under withholding not a large issue for 1964 taxes

Treasury officials say the 1964 tax cut did not cause wide hardship from under withholding. Two of three taxpayers usually get refunds, and for most the lower rate merely reduces refunds. Douglas Dillon says excess under withholding is overstated and an extra 400 to 500 million dollars may be due April 15 out of about 5 billion.

Prominent Wall Street Banker Found Slain

Seymour L. Cromwell, 62, a member of a famed Wall Street family, was found shot in his Long Island summer home in Bridgehampton. Police suspect a burglary after a pile of silver and liquor bottles near a rear entrance. Cromwell had retired as vice president of Fiduciary Trust Co. at 1 Wall Street. He was survived by his wife Olivia Morgan, whom he married in 1951, and his earlier divorce from Lita Clews.

Teen-Ager Bluffed Out Of Robbery At Drive-In

A teen-ager attempted a midnight robbery at Maggie's Drive-In in Albany asking for cash. A waitress refused to open the register and bluffingly claimed her brother was a policeman. The suspect, described as a slender six-foot Negro, fled empty handed.

Bridge up for sale in San Francisco Bay deal

California plans to sell the 1,500-foot San Mateo Hayward bridge to the highest bidder to fund a new 70 million dollar span. Chief Bridge Engineer E R Foley notes the structure breaks into five 300 foot sections and could form an 1800 foot bridge or five separate crossings.

UA Receives Study Grant For Automation Research

The National Science Foundation awarded the University of Arizona a 26900 grant for two years to study automation in chemical plants. Dr. Richard M. Edwards and Dr. Edward J. Freeh will lead the computer program, with major chemical, petroleum, and paper industries pursuing plant instrumentation and automation to improve plants, production, and costs.

Butler Seen As Canyon Del Oro Principal Nomination

Butler, Amphitheater High School assistant principal and former elementary chief, is expected to be named principal of Canyon del Oro High School north of Tucson. A district source said the board will approve Supt. Marion Donaldson’s recommendation at tonight’s meeting. The new principal will oversee a school transitioning from grades 7–9 to a four-year high school by 1967–68.

Girls sprayed with insecticide to curb mosquitoes at Bracknell lab

BRACKNELL England UPI reports female workers in a laboratory are now using an insecticide spray to combat hungry mosquitoes bred in heated chambers for chemical testing. A girl assistant says the change is welcome as they used to slap at biting mosquitoes while working.
