All But One Of 400 Escape School Fire

A blaze at Flat Rock School in Mountairy North Carolina killed one student and injured about 30 others. More than 400 students escaped or were led to safety as teachers helped evacuate. a teacher and several students were critically burned.Larry Adams, a third grader, died, and his father Ray Adams watched the search for his son’s body. Superintendent and doctors praised the children’s bravery as fire destroyed the 1925 building in under an hour.

Heavy rain across Los Angeles flooded intersections and basements, washing away parked cars and sending debris onto Main Street. West Los Angeles suffered the worst with cars submerged and traffic halted in Hollywood as freeways faced obstruction. Police described rainwater moving at about 20 knots along a street.

Burglars Die In Ambush In Cincinnati Area

In an early morning ambush at a Forestville supermarket, two safe crackers were killed in a gun battle with police. The dead were Michael Burke 33 of Jersey City and Louisville and Nickey Nader 49 with addresses in Covington Kentucky and Cincinnati. About 100 shots were fired and police were not harmed. The store manager said roughly 35000 dollars was in the store safe.

Rich Chicagoan Plans 9,000 Mile Sweden Flight

Chicago contractor Ragnar Benson chartered a Scandinavian Airlines jet for 72 relatives and will travel from Chicago to Malmo and back.
