Licavoli Brushes Off Senate Contempt Citation

Pete Licavoli labeled his contempt citation as politics saying they dredge up past events. He hinted he will remain at his Grace ranch east of Tucson until summoned. The Senate panel cited him for not answering questions at a February Detroit crime committee probe alleging he recruited goons to police an auto plant.

Parade Day Rodeo Parade Delivers Unusual Stunts And Runaway Pony

A lively rodeo parade features a girl in Spanish attire twirling a yo yo a man in a dress lifting a skirt to reveal cigarets a 10 year old boy guiding a runaway Shetland pony caught by about 75 youngsters. Citizens watch from unique spots while a lineman tops a pole and a city truck ladder dancer draw cheers. Rodeo Queen Ann Laurie and Grand Marshals Ed Echols and Frank Potter lead the parade amid veterans spectators and colorful attire.

Tucson Parade Dazzles Record Crowd in Valley of Rodeo

An estimated 85,000 attended Tucson’s four mile parade marking La Fiesta de los Vaqueros. Grand Marshals Frank Potter and Ed Echols led Rodeo Queen Ann Laurie as 417 entries, 628 horses and 70 vehicles moved by horse or horse drawn conveyances only. The event kicks four day rodeo with prize money totalling $7,500 plus chamber money and entry fees feeding a champion title.

Legislature Deliberates Liquor Rules and Defense Measures

Phoenix February 22 The Arizona legislature opened with debates on two Gov. Howard Pyle liquor control amendments a moratorium on new licenses and a one year transfer restriction both aimed at wine and beer licenses. The house and senate also worked on the health welfare and correction reorganization bill and civilian defense measures including limits on governor commandeering newspapers.

Pyle Delays Naming Judge For Pima County Court

Gov. Howard Pyle said the appointment of Pima County's third superior court judge will likely be delayed until early next week. He cannot interview all five Tucson attorneys today and will conduct personal interviews to select the best candidate. He planned trips to Nogales and Tucson to conduct interviews upon his return.
