Shovel Slaying Probed in Phoenix Murder
Phoenix police detectives investigated the shovel death of E. M. Sheffield fifty died Friday night in a Phoenix hospital. Sheffield, a Phoenix Negro, was found beaten in his room. A bloodstained broken-handled shovel was found near the house claimed as the death weapon. Another Negro was being held for questioning. The two men recently moved from Lubbock Texas and roomed together.

Vic E. Hanny 74 pioneer Arizona merchant died after months of illness. He founded the Vic Hanny store in Phoenix in 1912 and retired in 1932 after remaining a controlling owner. He came to Phoenix in 1888 and was a Tucson resident 1896 to 1912. He held Elks lodge and Shrine ranks and was a Mason. Surviving: his wife two daughters and a son. Masonic funeral Tuesday 11 a.m. in Phoenix with burial in Tucson by the Elks lodge.
