Hummel's three City Council candidates won decisive Democratic primary victories over opponents. Mayor Hummel spoke of Tucson rejecting groups with ulterior motives. Denied Lease Bid For Pima Copper Mine
James Woolsey’s bid for a lease on the Pima copper mine southwest of Tucson was rejected by the State Land Department. An attorney general opinion backed the ruling, saying leases cannot be issued for land already under an existing lease. Arizona to reach two million population in ten years
